School Counselor Standards and Competencies
In order to improve their practice and stay dedicated to the students they serve, school counselors have their own set of standards and competencies aimed at unifying the school counseling profession.
The ASCA School Counselor Competencies outlines the knowledge, abilities, skills and attitudes that ensure school counselors are equipped to meet the rigorous demands of the profession and the needs of all students. These competencies help ensure new and experienced school counselors are equipped to establish, maintain and enhance a comprehensive school counseling program addressing academic achievement, career, and personal/social development.
